It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

Senior Biosensor Scientist

VitalTrace is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Biosensor Scientist, with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience, to join our team.

About the Role

VitalTrace is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Biosensor Scientist, with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience, to join our team. You will be working with some of the brightest stars in the world of medical devices and biosensor development and manufacturing. The R&D Formulation Team aims to design and develop novel electrochemical biosensors, ultimately leading to transforming this unique R&D to manufacturing capability.

Previous experience with experimental design and testing of electroanalytical experiments is essential, as is the ability to conduct statistical analyses and interpretation of results. Presentation of results and the ability to communicate complex information is a necessity, together with the capability of modifying biosensor designs following experimental outcomes. To be successful in this role, you will need to be a confident communicator, an innovative and creative thinker, and a team player.

The role is based in Perth, Western Australia.

Key Requirements

  • Designing, fabricating, evaluating, and optimising novel electrochemical enzymatic biosensors.

  • Developing novel methods for biorecognition element immobilisation, stabilisation, and system integration to accommodate various biosensor concept designs.

  • Designing and conducting electroanalytical experiments to demonstrate efficacy and viability of new biosensor formulations and architectures.

  • Translating sensor concepts to structured R&D settings and assisting with designing biosensors for manufacture.

  • Performing statistical analyses on experimental data sets and providing informed interpretation of results.

  • Defining test methods and benchmarks for biosensor performance, generating documentation and written work instructions, reporting on experimental results, and modifying biosensor designs based on management’s feedback.

  • Implementing various sampling methods and statistical analyses aimed at understanding and quantifying process variability.

  • Ensuring IP protection and contributing to the Company’s IP portfolio by assisting with the preparation of patents.

  • Implementing testing methods, generating documentation, and establishing traceability based on regulatory requirements (i.e., TGA, FDA, ISO, etc).

  • All listed responsibilities are essential functions to this position. We may from time to time vary or modify your duties but only to those duties for which you have the skill and competence.

Education, Experience, and Key Skills

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.

  • PhD degree and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and a minimum of 8+ years equivalent industry experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with electrochemistry, electroanalytical methods, and electrochemical biosensors; strong proficiency in enzymatic electrochemical biosensors.

  • Experience in polymer chemistry and/or polymer electrochemistry, is desirable.

  • Experience with operating in a regulated environment and/or a medical device field, is desirable.

  • Demonstrated scientific experience and excellence in the biosensors field.

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with data analysis tools (i.e., Excel, Python) and statistical methods and analysis.

  • Capacity to manage multiple projects and communicate ideas clearly to the team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interface with R&D, engineering, data analysis, manufacturing, and pre-clinical teams and work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Willingness to take the lead on ongoing biosensor prototype evaluation efforts and provide frequent briefings on the status and technology maturity level.

  • Self-motivated individual who takes initiative and holds the highest scientific standards coupled with the ability to work in both a team environment and independently with minimal guidance.

This role is a full-time position based in Perth, Western Australia. For the right candidate we are prepared to assist with relocation.
